Success is a Three Legged Table

Succeeding in business is like building your future on a three legged table. If any one of the three legs is much shorter than the others the enterprise becomes unstable and very often falls. So what are the three legs?

The first is OPPORTUNITY. There are opportunities that are good available and many that will not suit you. Be diligent in choosing the best one for you. And there are opportunities that will allow you to start at a comfortable level and build as you grow. Think about your passion for a product or service and your ability to operate a business that matches your abilities. Starting a business has challenges and enjoying what you do will carry you through any rough times in any opportunity.

The second leg is BUSINESS KNOWLEDGE: This includes industry know-how, product knowledge, understanding the market and competition, closing the sale, etc. Every college graduate develops the skills for his or her profession. In any profession: a mechanic, dentist, teacher, and every blue collar worker there is time, energy and money required to earn a degree, professional license or certificate. No one is born a doctor or car mechanic. Business knowledge is a must.

And the third is PERSONAL GROWTH; It is my firm belief that without transforming the attitudes of an employee to those developed by successful entrepreneurs failure is almost guaranteed. The great salesman, business owners and entrepreneurs have character traits that set them apart from the common. Here are a few key character attributes needed for making the successful journey from employee to entrepreneur: VISION that is effectively setting goals, DECISION; learning how to make quality decisions, DISCIPLINE; work habits, use of words and developing healthy associations. Opportunities change, products and services change, marketing methods change but core character attributes of the prosperous never change. And it is important to understand, character is built, not bought!

My appeal to you is to find the right opportunity of ownership, learn all there is to learn about your products, services and marketplace and most importantly develop the timeless and proven character attributes prosperous people possess. Positive change in these three areas will result in a bright future. As Jim Rohn said it to us in a workshop over forty four years ago. "For things to change, you gotta change, for things to get better, you gotta get better." Build a better YOU by developing business knowledge, finding the right opportunity and building the character attributes all successful people possess.

Success is a three legged table and
Nothing Changes if Nothing Changes!
